This hay/sheep farm was in southern Ireland and had been handed down for generations. The current owners hosted a lovely morning tea and gave us a tour of their home & farm.
This is Moll's Gap, on top of the pass to Killarney in County Kerry. Our tour bus stopped so we could admire the Black Valley (which was the last place in Ireland to be connected to the national electric grid in 1976) and the distant Atlantic Ocean. It was so windy we could barely stand upright. Suddenly, the sky opened and deluged us with a downpour and just as abruptly cleared. The sun came out and two rainbows stretched across the sky. It was a magical place!
"HIRAETH"
A deep longing or homesickness for a home, place, or time that you may not even be able to return to--or that may no longer exist at all. It is described as a mix of nostalgia, grief, and yearning-not just missing a place, but aching for a version of it (or yourself) that is gone. This is how my sister and I both felt in Ireland. I felt like I had been there before, like it was in my bones.

I took a screen shot of a PBS Nature show that showed these polar bears searching for food in a landscape that should be all white. Their long foreboding shadows seem to predict their dire future in the face of human expansion and global warming.
